Reading is one of the cheapest ways to think more clearly about politics. It's also one of the most solitary. The read-what-you-want reading group is our weekly fix for that. It's a standing hour where Alabama Greens take turns saying what we've been reading and what we made of it.
The rules are loose on purpose:
- Read anything. A news article. A chapter from a novel. A wonky white paper. A poem. An essay a friend sent you in 2023 that you finally got around to. Nothing is too small or too off-topic.
- One reading per person per week. You don't have to share every week, but when you do, pick one thing and tell us about it for a few minutes.
- No prep required. No assigned texts, no syllabus, no homework. Bring whatever you've actually read since last Monday.
- Voice channel, no pressure. We meet in the Discord voice channel. Mics on if you can, text in the chat if you can't.
The promise: every week you'll hear about five or ten things you wouldn't have found on your own. You'll also be a little more accountable to actually finish that article you keep meaning to read.
